Benches
Privacy Policy
Last updated June 14, 2026
Benches is an applicant tracking platform that law firms use to post roles and manage hiring. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you apply to a role through Benches, how it is used, and the choices you have. It is written for candidates — the people who submit applications.
Who controls your data
When you apply to a role, the hiring firm that posted it is the controller of your personal information — they decide who to hire and how to evaluate you. Benches acts as a processor on that firm’s behalf: we store and organize your application so the firm can review it. Questions about a specific firm’s hiring decisions or how long they keep your data should go to that firm directly.
Information we collect
We collect the information you provide when you apply, which may include:
- Your name and email address (always required to apply)
- Your phone number, where requested
- A LinkedIn profile or portfolio link, where requested
- Your résumé or CV, if you choose to upload one
- Answers to a firm’s screening questions and any “why this role” note
- Basic technical details such as the page you applied from and an optional source tag from the link you followed
Please share only the information asked for. Avoid including sensitive details (such as health, religion, or government identifiers) in free-text fields or your résumé unless a firm specifically requires them.
How your information is used
Your information is used to:
- Deliver your application to the hiring firm and let them evaluate it
- Let the firm contact you about your application and the role
- Flag when the same person has applied to more than one role at a firm
- Operate, secure, and improve the Benches platform
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your application data to send you marketing.
Who can see your application
Your application is visible to the hiring firm that posted the role and to Benches staff acting to operate and support the service. Access within each firm’s account is restricted by row-level security so that one firm cannot see another firm’s candidates. We also rely on infrastructure providers — including our hosting and database provider — who process data on our behalf under their own safeguards.
Résumés and file storage
Files you upload, such as a résumé, are stored in secure object storage and made available only to the relevant hiring firm and to Benches for operating the service.
Data retention
We keep your application for as long as the hiring firm needs it to manage their hiring process, and as long as we need it to run the platform or meet legal obligations. Retention periods for a particular role are set by the hiring firm.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to object to certain processing. Because the hiring firm controls your application data, the fastest path is usually to contact that firm. You can also reach us at the address below and we will help route your request.
Cookies
Public job and application pages use only the cookies needed to make the site work, such as keeping a form submission secure. We do not use advertising cookies on candidate-facing pages.
Children
Benches is intended for use by adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16, and applications should only be submitted by people legally able to work.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “last updated” date above. Material changes will be reflected on this page.
